Introduction

During my first year at EPFL finding the time for personal projects proved impossible, so by the time I was done with my third semester I was itching for a new PCB to design. This came in the form of Project Moléson: a simple PCB full of individually adressable APA102 2mm wide RGB LEDs, that I built as a decorative necklace for a disguise I would wear at that year’s ski week-end party.

Design

The design includes an ARM Cortex M0+ microcontroller, battery charger for the rear-mounted lithium battery, some buttons and an I2S microphone mounted behind the swiss flag for audio reactive effects.

Manually placing the 100 LEDs was quite the zen activity:
